Psychological & Neuropsychological Testing

Psychological and Neuropsychological testing is a clinical tool that uses collected data to supplement behavioral observations in formulating a diagnosis.

Patients (and caregivers) complete objective, performance-based measures by completing questionnaires to provide information on things like capabilities, behaviors, and emotions.

Tests are then performed by a trained professional using research-validated tools and methods to assess things like developmental progress, cognitive abilities, and executive functioning. A Psychologist will then evaluate the results to determine the possible cause, severity, and duration of the symptoms being experienced.

Why Psychological/Neuropsychological Testing?

  • Psychological/Neuropsychological testing can provide the data necessary for clinicians to diagnose conditions that are challenging to accurately identify with just a clinical interview. Psychological/Neuropsychological testing can help diagnose mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, personality disorders, and more.

  • Different tests can assess different area, such as cognitive skills, emotional regulation, social functioning, and more. This information can help with the development of an individualized treatment plan that addresses the individual’s specific needs and strengths.

  • Psychological/Neuropsychological testing can help determine the severity of symptoms, functional impairment, and subjective distress

Most of the time completion of psychological/neuropsychological testing can help individuals gain a better understanding of their own strengths and weaknesses, providing additional self-awareness that may assist in personal growth and development.

  • All patients need this completed. Those under 18 and/or adult patients with a legal guardian, the intake paperwork must be completed by someone with legal authority to consent to medical services on their behalf. If legal authority of a minor patient is contested (divorce/separation/foster care/temporary guardianship), please include documentation of legal authority when sending the completed intake forms to our office.

  • If my child is being tested, do they need to attend the clinical interview?

Yes, it is essential that they attend the clinical interview as behavioral observations made by the clinician are a necessary part of determining medical necessity and selecting the appropriate testing.

Can another adult family member accompany my minor child to the interview?

Yes, with just a few requirements. The person attending the clinical interview with the minor patient: (1) must be a legal adult who is responsible for the safety of the child; (2) must be prepared to act as an informed reporter in answering interview questions; (3) must have personal contact with the child on a regular and ongoing basis; and (4) must be listed on the PHI Communications Authorization forms within the intake paperwork. If these requirements cannot be met, please contact our office prior to the clinical interview.

  • How long does test administration take?

Test administration time is determined by many factors like age, cognitive abilities, and/or symptomatic concerns. Every patient’s testing orders are tailored to their individual needs. The clinician will discuss total administration time with you at the clinical interview.

Who is in the room while the patient is being tested?

Tests are administered in a one on one setting with a trained testing administrator. This is to ensure that the presence of another person does not affect the results of the testing process. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact our office at
